It looks like Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus have more in common than being Disney stars.

The talented youngsters were both spotted wearing cut-off jean shorts in the last few weeks. First up was Miley, who donned a pair as she grabbed some lunch in Sherman Oaks, CA. Then it was Selena’s turn yesterday, as she showed off her legs at a tanning salon in Florida on Thursday.

But who wore them best?

Back in August 2011, Miley Cyrus chose a slinky Roberto Cavalli dress for her red carpet appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards. She teamed the grey leopard and floral devore gown with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a simple up-do.

A few months later, at the end of October, German tennis ace Steffi Graf chose the dress for husband Andre Agassi’s Foundation for Education’s 16th Grand Slam for Children benefit concert in her adopted hometown of Las Vegas. She kept the accessories even more simple with just a tiny necklace, and went softer with the hair allowing a few curls to fall around her shoulders.

It’s perhaps a testament to Cavalli’s universal red carpet appeal that his dress was picked by both an 18 year old and a 42 year old for big events, but who pulled it off better? There’s no denying they both have the bod to pull off the figure-hugging shape, but who do you think wore it best?

This look is about snazz not sleaze, so save the lace for over not under.

Take Kristen Stewart’s black bra underneath a thin, white T-shirt at the Breaking Dawn panel at Comic-Con. What could be a fashion faux-pas actually appears to be a brazen style choice that works with jeans and beat-up Converse. Selena Gomez wore a tank top underneath a gauzy lace top at a summer concert in Santa Monica. This is the more demure way to achieve the look, and we like it. Miley Cyrus, however, wore a slightly more extreme—yet still classy!—version to her “Gypsy Heart” tour press conference. She paired a white button-down with an undergarment that was more bustier than bra, then she threw on some long, turquoise and feather necklaces to downplay it all. Wait, downplayed? More like well-played, Miley!
