Miley Cyrus returns to what she does best – singing as she releases a new cover of Lilac Wine, a song written by James Shelton.

Over the last few months, Miley Cyrus has made the headlines for partially every other reason but her music. First it was her engagement to Liam Hemsworth, then her tattoo and dying her hair and the latest was her cutting her hair. However, Cyrus seems to have had enough of that and has finally released her cover of Lilac Wine, a song written by James Shelton.

The song has a beautiful feel to it and Cyrus proves yet again how talented she is.  After being criticized for so long, Cyrus won over the hearts of all with this beautiful rendition and showed the world yet again why she’s the reigning teen diva.

The Miami New Times said the cover was “well beyond [Miley's] young years,” and MTV gushed, “Miley, you NAILED IT! We will absolutely never doubt you again.”

The Disney star took to her twitter account to thank everyone for all their love and support. She tweeted, “been getting so much love on lilac wine :) so happy! laying in bed thanking the universe for being so kind ❤”

Cyrus also confirmed her new single through twitter with a tweet that read, “How do y’all feel about me confirming a single for this year!!!!”

She also confirmed the news to Access Hollywood. “I’m really, really excited to put out new music and look different,” she said.

Cyrus has her full concentration on her career and thus, has no time to plan her wedding to fiancé Liam Hemsworth.

“I’ve got so much going with this record, this record’s going to, like, kill me,” she told E! News. “I’m really excited to get obviously married, but I kind of already feel married. I know we’re forever, and I don’t really need a [piece of] paper right now.” While Cyrus hasn’t given her fans a sneak peek into what the record is all about and what the music is going to be like, she assures her audiences that “it’s different”.

“It’s all really different,” she told E! News. “We’ve been working really hard, and the record, I’m really proud of the album. It’s my favorite thing I’ve done, probably ever.”

Release dates and other details of the record are yet to be announced.

It looks like the daring new ‘do was only the beginning. The evolution of Miley Cyrus wouldn’t be complete without new music.

Cyrus’ newly released cover of James Shelton’s 1950 classic “Lilac Wine” proves just how talented the 18-year-old singer really is. She’s no longer the teen phenomenon that needs to rely on the bells and whistles of modern pop music. Now Cyrus relies on her stunning vibrato to carry a tune — nothing more, nothing less.

The singer also announced new music before the year’s end!

“How do y’all feel about me confirming a single for this year!!!!,” Cyrus tweeted last week.

She confirmed the news to Access Hollywood. “I’m really, really excited to put out new music and look different,” she said.

Meanwhile, her “Lilac Wine” cover was part of the young singer’s “Backyard Sessions,” which took place earlier this summer when Cyrus, 18, brought her band together to perform some of her favorite songs. “Lilac Wine” is the first of these acoustic covers to be released.

Cyrus recorded an acoustic cover of Bob Dylan’s “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” for the album, Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan.

Miley Cyrus is building excitement over her upcoming new album, with a website update and the release of this video, where she sings Lilac Wine.

Lilac Wine is an oldie, for sure (1950s!), and Miley’s definitely showing off a different sound here.

Could Miley be abandoning her Can’t Be Tamed vibe and be heading in a totally new direction musically?

That remains to be seen, but Miley proves she is super talented in this video shot during her summer Backyard Sessions. Critics are smitten:

The Miami New Times said the song is “well beyond [Miley's] young years,” and MTV noted, “Miley, you NAILED IT! We will absolutely never doubt you again.”

Miley had nothing but love for MTV’s reaction, tweeting: Thank u @mtv for such an amazing review of Lilac Wine :) ya know I lurvvvv ya”

A few days ago she tweeted, “been getting so much love on lilac wine :) so happy! laying in bed thanking the universe for being so kind”

And more Miley music is on the way, as she tweeted: “How do y’all feel about me confirming a single for this year!!!!”

    We’re waiting…

Miley Cyrus‘s many critics love to comment on everything she does — including her hair cut, weight loss, bold fashion choices, love life and career moves. But the talented singer silenced her nay-sayers last week with a soulful new cover of James Shelton’s 1950 classic “Lilac Wine” that proves just how talented she really is.

We’d venture to say it’s one of the best covers we’ve heard from a young star since Ariana Grande’s breathtaking rendition of “Die In Your Arms” — and we’re not the only ones who are impressed. The Miami New Times said the cover was “well beyond [Miley's] young years,” and MTV gushed, “Miley, you NAILED IT! We will absolutely never doubt you again.”

The above video was recorded in her YouTube series, “The Backyard Sessions,” uploaded last Thursday. The track reminds us of another gorgeous acoustic cover she released this year of Bob Dylan’s “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go.” Fans of Miley’s bun will also be pleased to see her signature top knot making a comeback.

As usual, Miley took to Twitter to thank her fans for the support.

@MileyCyrus: been getting so much love on lilac wine :) so happy! laying in bed thanking the universe for being so kind ❤

And to the delight of Smilers everywhere, Miley also tweeted on Thursday to confirm that a new single was on the way before the end of the year. As one devoted fan reacted, “AHSGDKGHGJ I’M SO EXCITED!!”

If you need more Miley in your life, then we’ve got some good news.Miley Cyrus has launched her own online community, featuring tons of exclusive treats for her fans. Let’s take a look around, shall we?

The first thing you’ll see at MileyCyrus.com is a slideshow of new black-and-white Miley photos, displayed behind a giant red “M.” (Artsy!) The pictures, which show off the singer’s dramatic blonde haircut, can all be viewed (along with a full-color set) in the website’s Gallery section. Between the short hair, the black lipstick and the leather, she looks like a whole new Miley.

The website’s other big treat for fans is a new video concert series, the “Backyard Sessions.” Filmed earlier this summer at Miley’s home, the videos show Cyrus and her band playing soulful acoustic covers of her favorite songs. First up: “Lilac Wine,” made popular by Jeff Buckley.

Cyrus will also be using MileyCyrus.com to augment her Twitter account, posting announcements and updates on her News page. You can go there now to check out her VMA red carpet pictures.

There is also a merchandise page (where Cyrus is accepting design submissions), and an international fan community — where fans can lurk for free or join for $2.99 a month. Much like Lady Gaga on her own LittleMonsters.com, Cyrus will be keeping a journal in the members-only section of the site.

With a new fiance, a new look and a new record on the way, Miley is clear entering another chapter in her life. It’s nice to see her using her web platform to bring fans along for the ride!

Wow. Who would have ever thought that Miley “Party In The U.S.A.” Cyrus, daughter of Billy Ray “Achey Breaky” Cyrus, also formerly known as “Hannah Montana,” had the vocal chops to tackle James Shelton’s 1950s’ classic song “Lilac Wine“? Or maybe you’re a little more familiar with the 1990s Jeff Buckley rendition? Either way, our eyes are in full balloon-plate mode, because Miley, you NAILED IT! We will absolutely never doubt you again. Because that’s not an easy song to sing!

Filmed as an informal “Backyard Sessions” series, Miley is shown pre-pixie cut (but it looks like she may have had shears on the brain with her hair pulled into a slick, tight knot. Little did she know that someday very soon she would be in haircut cahoots with Pink at the 2012 MTV VMAs!). She’s also shown sitting down with her band in a serene garden space as she sings huskily into a standing mic. In fact, Miley’s husky vocals are probably the loveliest part of her cover, which is full, serious, studied, and exhibits an obvious amount of musical (and perhaps personal) growth. Because really,we have to ask ourselves: did WE listen to the same exact music when we were 19 as we did when we were 15? I think not. Well done, Miley!
