Pop princess Miley Cyrus has stepped firmly out of her realm by covering Bob Dylan‘s “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” from his 1975 album Blood On The Tracks.
The track is part of a monster four-disc set of Dylan covers entitled Chimes Of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International with renditions coming from artists such as Maroon 5, Adele and Ke$ha.
Miley Cyrus sticks true to the vibe of Dylan with a soulful and stripped back version of the song, which includes fellow musician Johnzo West.
The video shows Miley Cyrus in a different light to what her fans are probably used to, with the Nashville singer much more akin to the gloss and glamour of tracks such as “Party In The U.S.A.” (2,566,406 scrobbles) and “The Climb” (1,653,511 scrobbles).
“Party In The U.S.A.” comes from her debut 2009 EP release The Time Of Our Lives – scrobbled 2,853,204 times. Her latest album is 2010′s Can’t Be Tamed. Scrobbled 4,941,904 times, the title track has seen 1,521,828 scrobbles alone.
Miley’s Bob Dylan cover of “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” which features her friend Johnzo West is now available to purchase on iTunes!
The cover is part of a 76-tracks album which features Adele, Darren Criss, Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, Elvis Costello, Pete Seeger, Tom Morello, Ke$ha and more! All the profit made from the album goes to Amnesty International USA which is a non-profit organization.

You’ve hinted on Twitter that you MIGHT release a record this year — go for it! Your fans are DYING for new material!
Miley Cyrus is not just a great role model – she’s also an incredible musician. Unfortunately, her last album was 2010′s Can’t Be Tamed, and we’re struggling without a dose of Miley. But there seems to be hope on the horizon: she’s hinting that she may drop a new record in 2012. We TOTALLY hope this happens!
Miley, 19, took to Twitter on Jan. 6 to respond to a poll in which she was voted to have the most anticipated album of 2012 — even though she hasn’t even announced one yet! She wrote, “oh my god! That is soooooo inspiring! Had an awesome meeting today all about 2012! Keep voting!”
As of late, Miley has been focusing on family, charity work, acting and touring — and we love watching her every step along the way. But our favorite Miley moments are definitely dancing all night to “Party In The U.S.A.,” getting emotional to “The Climb,” and telling haters that “She’s JUST being Miley.”
So drop another disc, Miley — we’d love it. And we’re sure that with your talent and work ethic, it will be your best work yet. After all, your most recent new song was totally different than your previous releases — and we love the mature sound!
HollywoodLifers — sound off in the comments below if you can’t WAIT to hear another Miley record!
Miley Cyrus has confirmed that she will be working on a new album in 2012—sort of. The teen queen was informed that fans have been voting for her on a People’s Choice Awards poll for “most highly anticipated new album“—and her name was #1! It was her response that pretty much confirmed that she’d make it happen.
“Oh my god! That is soooooo inspiring! Had an awesome meeting today all about 2012! Keep voting,” she tweeted. Since her last studio album was released in 2010, it does seem as though she is overdue for some new music, and obviously her fans feel the same way.
Miley Cyrus has done quite a few shows over the past two years, but as far as new music, fans have gotten only a revamped video from her old song Liberty Walk. She seems to want to put out a new album, and she has dropped hints that 2012 will be the year she will do it. Are you excited for a new Miley album?
Miley recently covered Bob Dylan’s You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go for a new tribute album. The album, Chimes Of Freedom, honors 50 years of Amnesty International. All proceeds from the album support Amensty’s fight for human rights! You can pre-order the album here. Doesn’t Miley sound flawless?! She should sing country more! Make sure you check out the cover above.
Adele, Miley Cyrus, Darren Criss, Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, Elvis Costello, Pete Seeger, Tom Morello, and Ke$ha are among the acts who have contributed new or previously unreleased tracks to the album Chimes of Freedom which pays tribute to both Bob Dylan and Amnesty International. The 4-CD set of Dylan covers will be released on January 24.
Adele has gifted Chimes of Freedom a live version of “Make You Feel My Love” and Cyrus sings “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go.” Meanwhile, folk legend Seeger performs “Forever Young.”
“This album is a powerful fusion of the music community’s respect for Amnesty’s life-affirming work and for Bob Dylan’s enduring brilliance,” said the collection’s executive producers Jeff Ayeroff and Julie Yannatta in a statement. “We are proud to have worked with Amnesty to produce this remarkable project.”
A sprawling new collection of Bob Dylan cover songs is being released in January to benefit Amnesty International.
The human rights organization says Wednesday that all of the songs on the 4-CD collection will be new or previously unreleased versions, with the exception of Dylan’s title cut, “Chimes of Freedom.”
The disc, to be released in the U.S. on Jan. 24, is being produced by the same music executives who made a 2007 benefit album for Darfur featuring John Lennon songs.
Participating artists range from 19-year-old Miley Cyrus to 92-year-old folk legend Pete Seeger. Cyrus recorded “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” and Seeger, with a children’s chorus, does “Forever Young.”
