Are you paying attention, Simon Cowell? Miley Cyrus – our blonde-Mohawked June cover girl - knows exactly how to spot that all-elusive X factor.

‘A star is someone who doesn’t have to take her clothes off to be sexy because you naturally have star power,’ she told ELLE writer Janice Turner. ‘Sex does sell, but you have to find a way that’s not just showing your tits. I don’t want to be a glorified model. They just walk on stage and it’s all about their clothes – or lack of clothes.’

So for us, meeting Miley was very much to do having her bring her own persona to some of the season’s most iconic pieces – those by the likes of Saint Laurent, Fendi, Emilio Pucci and Simone Rocha. She rocks 10 pages of them - shot by Jan Welters – in our new issue, out 1 May.

The funny thing about falling in love is that it can happen so quickly that you hardly have time to process (let alone appreciate) it. The lyric video for Snoop Lion’s “Ashtrays And Heartbreaks” featuring Miley Cyrus (from Snoop’s recently released Reincarnated) is a perfect illustration of this: As the recently turned Rastafari’s words float by, so do the good and bad times between a young, amorous couple. Love can be SO poetic.

Tinted in Rastafarian red, gold, and green, “Ashtrays And Heartbreaks” depicts the ghosts of two young lovers kissing, fighting, and everything in between while the recent “RapFix Live” guest’s breezy lyrics blow by (along with the wisps of something smoking in an ashtray). Hmm, that’s almost like a metaphor or something… you know, with love being ephemeral and coming and going in a snap. It’s also possible that we’re just reading too far into it — like a trail of cryptic not-quite-boyfriend/girlfriend text messages. That, or we should stop scrolling through eHarmony profiles at work. Either one.

Snoop Lion and Miley Cyrus get reflective on their collaboration for Ashtrays and Heartbreaks. The Major Lazer-produced track appears on Snoop Lion’s reggae album Reincarnated, the first release from the famous rapper under his new name.

The melancholy Ashtrays and Heartbreaks explores the ups and downs of life, with Cyrus’s hook giving some energy to the chill song. Driven by a heavy bassline, the tempo gradually picks up throughout the song, leaving listeners feeling a little bit better by the end. The lyric video has a simple treatment with a single camera shot on a room that shows the memories of those who once inhabited the space.

The making of Snoop Lion’s album Reincarnated, which was released yesterday, is the focus of documentary by the same name, released earlier this year.
